HMD2 ability to record without wifi

I understand HMD2 needs a wifi connection for full functionality, but can the HMD2 record to the SD card when there is no wifi, for later access?

I need to install a battery-driven camera remotely where no wifi is possible. I can do initial setup on wifi, then move the camera to its remote location and record to SD. To retrieve recordings, I'd like to pull the SD card and read via computer, or I can temporarily relocate the camera back in wifi range to read.
