I have this unit inside my house.
When viewing my living area remotely, if I touch the screen on my phone, a microphone icon appears.
If you press and hold it, you can talk over the speaker.
The camera would have to mounted outside, near your front door,
if you wanted to talk to someone outside.
I am very happy with this camera for indoor use!
